Game on! LA Fleet Week® 2019 Announces Galley Wars Celebrity Judges

Princess Cruises-Sponsored Surf & Turf Cooking Competition to Feature Judges Chef Robert Irvine of the Food Network, Master Chef Season 7 Winner Shaun O’Neale, Executive Chef Mike Williams and U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Alvin Holsey 


The high-stakes, high temperature U.S. Sea Services and U.S. Marines culinary competition of the year—Galley Wars at LA Fleet Week® 2019—gets underway on Sunday, Sept. 1. Culinary teams from visiting U.S. Navy, Marine Corps and Coast Guard ships will compete in an intense, timed cooking battle to see who can grill up the best “Surf & Turf” dishes for the event’s prestigious celebrity panel of judges. 

Judges this year include Food Network’s Restaurant: Impossible host Chef Robert Irvine, Master Chef Season 7 winner Shaun O’Neale, Norah Restaurant’s Executive Chef Mike Williams and U.S. Navy Rear Admiral Alvin Holsey. Sponsored by Princess Cruises, Galley Wars is a free event and open to the public. Jill Whelan—currently a Princess Cruises Celebrity Ambassador and star of the 1970s hit television series The Love Boat—will emcee the event, along with Miss Golden State 2019 winner and U.S. Coast Guard veteran Athena Fleming.

Host of Restaurant: Impossible on Food Network, and author of four cookbooks, including the new Family Table by Robert Irvine. A philanthropist who focuses on veterans’ issues, Irvine created the Robert Irvine Foundation to support wounded servicemen and their families. Irvine’s appearance at Galley Wars is courtesy of Comcast NBCUniversal & Comcast Business.

CHEF SHAUN O’NEALE World recognized chef and Season 7 Champion of MasterChef on FOX in 2016. Author of the new cookbook “My Modern American Table,” O’Neale is a celebrity D.J. turned self-taught chef who developed his upscale, modern American style of cooking by reading cookbooks and traveling the world.


Executive chef at the popular Norah Restaurant in West Hollywood, and Margot’s in the Culver City hot spot The Platform. Williams is a Marine Corps. Veteran who served in Iraq.  He credits his time as a U.S. Marine in Iraq for helping to prepare him for success in the fast-paced restaurant and culinary environment. 


Rear Adm. Alvin Holsey currently serves as U.S. Navy commander, Carrier Strike Group One. He previously served as Deputy Director for Operations, National Military Commanded Center, Joint Chiefs of Staff.  Adm. Holsey has been noshing on ship galley cuisine since his commission into the U.S. Navy through the Morehouse College NROTC program in 1988.
